0.3. How hitting the mark works

Experience has taught me that whether writing for the theatre or on radio, or devising documentary and factual programming for BBC, ITV and Discovery, or working with some of the biggest brand in the world, including Adidas, MARS inc and Intel, along with the UK and Scottish governments, the story is everything.

As a speaker I deliver a range of talks and presentations that combine personal anecdotes mixed with factual content relating to why the 'king of content' has, and always will be the story.

Hitting the Mark will help you to tell your story and ensure you to develop the best way to create, engage and deliver content to generate its maximum impact.

Anchor 1
Please view the videos below, which contain examples of  some of the styles of work I have generated I my 30+ years of working as a writer, producer, director in broadcast and branded video production.

'Life in the Fast lane' ESPN Television 10 episode Series.  My crew and myself were embed with one of the world's top fuel drag racing teams for three months.

Conference Opener.  Working with the events director I wrote, produced and directed this video featuring a 12 year old actress.

Training video.  The use of humour in training videos is a valuable asset.  Never work with animals..., I'll let you be the judge.

Performance led content.  I have directed 80+ television commercials and bumper breaks. Here is a selection of my work featuring actors, the public and a cat.

'I Want...' On-line promotional video.  I developed the concept, then wrote and directed this short video.  The brief was how do we make a difference.

Testimonial.  If you talk to people involved with a product or service at the sharp end, the narrative is instantly relevant and engaging.

Brand Video.  I developed, produced and directed this video which was used as a Keynote introduction for HRH The Princes Anne.

Broadcast series episode.  This is the first half of the first episode of 'The Front Line'. Made one year prior to the Covid Pandemic, which was some what ironic.

1.3. Speaker
Appendix

I offer three presentation subjects which you will find below.  I can adapt the content to suit the audience and speaker slot you wish me to deliver the content in.

Storytelling and Technology, the perfect partners.

I take the audience on the journey between storytelling and the development of technology.

From cave paintings to holograms, from the hyroglifics to social media the links between the two have always been there.

The narrative of my presentation is driven by a mixture of research, evidence and antidotes explaining how and why storytelling is the most important part of a modern comms strategy.

I use my story of how all of my life I have been involved in storytelling, from writing for children's theatre to making TV docs for the BBC, ITV, Discovery and ESPN.

Alongside this I help the audience to develop and tell a story that will help grow their business, thus telling their story.

The Gift, a blessing in disguise.

At the age of 37 my 6 year old son was diagnose as being Dyslexic and on the same day so was I.

Up to that point I had accepted that I must be 'lazy and stupid', because my teachers had constantly told me this.

I then began the process of educating my son so he did not fall into the same mind set.

So we started by addressing the positives and soon my son and I grew to realise what is referred to as 'special needs' is in fact a 'GIFT".

I am not angry with my ex-teachers, back in the day, they knew no better, but I am angry with technology today.

The talk is a mixture of humorous antidotes, facts about the scale of people with linguistic and numerical dyslexia that will help you to understand why Dyslexia is increasingly becoming known as the "GIFT".

The Smartphone video revolution.

Today we all have a devise in our pockets that enable the creation of broadcast standard video, which is changing the ways in which we all communicate.

We call it our 'phone', but in fact it is mini computer, high definition video camera, edit suite and distribution centre.

I have taught over 2000 people around the world how to create video using their smartphones using my iDEC® teaching method, including BMW, Adidas and Barclays along with the UK and Scottish Governments.

My talk explains how these organisations and many other top brands are now using smartphone video to truly revolutionise their internal and external communications.

My talk s a mixture of practical demonstrations and advise combined with some basic production guidance.
